Play today’s course

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the daily course, saving, the leaderboard and getting the game running. For the controls, see How to play.

The daily course

When does the new course come out?
At midnight Eastern time, the time in New York, with daylight saving taken into account. The title screen shows when the next course starts in your own time zone.
Is it really the same course for everyone?
Yes. Each day’s three holes are built from the date itself, so every phone and computer in the world builds exactly the same layout, wind and pin positions. The game also takes the time from our server, not from your device. A phone with its clock set wrong still gets the right course.
Can I play today’s course more than once?
No. Your first round of the day is the one that counts, which keeps scores comparable. Once you finish, the title screen shows your result until the next course arrives. You can play today’s holes again in a game with friends, which doesn’t change your daily score. For more golf, Unlimited gives you a new course whenever you like.
Can I play an old course?
Not yet. Each course is only playable on its own day.
Why is there only one mulligan?
So everyone plays under the same rules. A do-over is generous, and if some players could take more than others, the leaderboard wouldn’t mean much. Unlimited courses have no limit.
What’s the worst score I can make on a hole?
Par + 5: 8 on the par 3, 9 on the par 4 and 10 on the par 5. When you reach it you pick up and move to the next hole, so the worst possible round is 27 (+15).

Saving, stats and streaks

Do I need an account?
No. There’s nothing to sign up for or download. The game gives your browser a random player ID the first time you visit, and that’s how it keeps your scores apart from everyone else’s. It isn’t tied to your name or email. The privacy page has the details.
I closed the tab halfway through my round. Is it lost?
No. Your round is saved after every shot. Open dailygolf again in the same browser and press Resume to carry on from the exact stroke you left. Just finish before the next course starts.
Why did my stats disappear?
Stats live in your browser’s storage on that device. Clearing your browsing data, using a private window or switching to another browser or device starts you fresh. Stats don’t sync between devices yet.
What do the stats show?
For the daily course: rounds played, your average score against par, your best round, your current streak and your longest one. A bar chart shows how often you’ve finished at each score, from −2 or better to +7 or more, with today’s round highlighted. A switch on the Stats screen shows your Unlimited courses instead: courses against par, holes under par, aces and your scoring average on par 3s, 4s and 5s.
How do streaks work?
Your streak counts the days in a row on which you finished the daily course. Today doesn’t break it until it’s over, so a streak that ran through yesterday stays alive while you still have time to play today.

The leaderboard and sharing

How does the leaderboard work?
When you finish the daily course, your total is posted along with everyone else’s for that day. Once 20 or more people have finished, your result screen shows where you stand, for example “Top 23%” or “T13 of 412 players today”. Everyone gets one score per day. The server checks each one against that day’s holes and turns away anything that doesn’t add up.
What do the colored squares in my shared result mean?
Each square is one shot, colored by where the ball finished:
MarkBall finished
🟩On the fairway (or still on the tee)
🟨In the rough or deep rough
🟧In a bunker
🟢On the green or the fringe
🟦In the water
🟥Out of bounds
⬜On a cart path
⛳In the hole
✖️Picked up at par + 5

The first line gives the course number and your total, and each hole follows with its score name and whether you used your mulligan there. Nobody can see where your shots went, only how they turned out, so you can post it without spoiling the holes for anyone.

How do I share my result?
Press Share result on the final screen. On a phone it opens the share sheet. On a computer it copies the result to your clipboard, ready to paste into a chat.

Unlimited and games with friends

What is Unlimited?
An optional one-time purchase of $5. It gives you a new random course whenever you like, with no limit on mulligans, and the Classics. You can start games with friends, and you won’t see ads anywhere in dailygolf. There’s no subscription and no account. The daily course stays free for everyone, with or without it.
What are the Classics?
Famous holes rebuilt as closely as the game allows: Amen Corner at Augusta National (holes 11, 12 and 13), the finish at TPC Sawgrass with its island green (16, 17 and 18), Pebble Beach on the cliffs above the Pacific (7, 8 and 18) and the Old Course at St Andrews, Swilcan Burn and Road Hole included (1, 17 and 18). The Grand Tour plays nine of them in a row. The holes look the same every time, but the pin and the wind change. Press Classic courses on the title screen, or pick one for a game with friends. They’re our tributes to these courses; dailygolf has no connection with the clubs.
How do I get Unlimited on my other devices?
When you unlock it, you get a private link of your own, which is also under Stats later. Open it in another browser or on another device to unlock that one too, on up to five devices.
I cleared my browser and lost Unlimited.
Unlimited is tied to the player ID in your browser, so clearing site data loses it unless you open your private link again. If you don’t have the link, email help@dailygolf.fun with your Stripe receipt and we’ll send you a new one.
How do games with friends work?
Up to 10 people play the same course at once, each on their own device, playing each hole together. Press Play with friends, type a name, and start a game or join one with its five-character code. The host can invite people with a link and choose the course: a new one of three holes or nine, today’s, or one of the Classics. Everyone’s ball is out on the course in their own color, and the leaderboard updates live. Joining is free, and starting a game is part of Unlimited.
Do games with friends count toward my stats?
No. They never touch your daily round, your streak or the daily leaderboard, even when the game is on today’s course. The names and scores in a game are deleted an hour after the last player leaves.

Playing

The ring was on dry land, so why did my ball end up in the water?
The ring shows where a full, straight swing lands with no wind. It doesn’t account for wind, or for the ball bouncing and rolling after it lands, and it can’t predict a crooked flick. A ring just short of a pond with a tailwind, or a driver ring on a downslope toward water, can both end in a splash. The guide’s wind section has the numbers.
My putt was on line but missed. What happened?
The aim line is straight, but greens slope. Turn your aim toward the side the arrows on the grid come from, more for long putts and steep greens. See putting in the guide.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. dailygolf was made for touch first: one finger swings, aims and changes clubs. It also plays well with a mouse or a keyboard on a computer.
Is there sound?
Yes. Turn it on or off with the speaker button or M.

Trouble loading

It says the game needs WebGL. What do I do?
dailygolf draws the course in 3D using WebGL, which every current browser supports but which can be switched off. Try updating your browser. In Chrome or Edge, check that “Use graphics acceleration when available” is on in the system settings. If you’re on a work or school computer, it may have been turned off on purpose, so try another device.
The game is slow or choppy.
Close other tabs and apps that are using the graphics chip, and make sure your laptop isn’t in battery saver mode. On older phones, the first hole can take a few seconds to draw while the course is built.
Is dailygolf free?
The daily course is free for everyone, every day. Unlimited is an optional one-time $5 for more courses and games with friends. dailygolf is also supported by ads on these information pages and by players who buy the developer a coffee.
Something’s broken. Who do I tell?
Email help@dailygolf.fun and say what happened, on which device and browser.
